Financial Transparency
At Afghan Scouts Durham, we are committed to complete transparency and stewardship in managing the funds entrusted to us by our generous donors. All donors can be assured that ASD optimizes every dollar donated because:
-
All-Volunteer Effort: Every aspect of our work is carried out by dedicated volunteers. This ensures that 100% of all donations go directly to supporting refugee Girl Scouts who have fled the Taliban.
-
Direct Use of Funds: Donations are used exclusively for initiatives such as educational programs, supplies, and other resources needed to empower and support the girls. Less than 5% of donated funds are used for administrative costs and fundraising efforts.
-
Addressing Shortfalls: When fundraising does not meet our needs, sponsor families step in to cover the gap. However, fundraising shortfalls may result in unmet needs, which we strive to address as funding allows. During the 2023-2024 school year, we were limited in our ability to provide mental health support and supplemental tutoring to help the girls close educational gaps.
-
Expense Oversight: Our Board of Directors reviews and approves all expenses and reimbursements. This process ensures that every dollar is spent wisely and aligns with our mission to provide meaningful support to the girls. It also ensure that no funds can be misused.
Budget & Financial Needs
Research from refugee placement agencies estimates that the cost of supporting a high school age refugee is $64,370. While sponsor families cover day to day costs (housing, food, etc), Afghan Scouts Durham estimates that $29,250 per year is needed to support each high school-aged scout.
