Mrs. Zohra T. Hunter

Board Member & Afghan Activist

Zohra is native of Afghanistan, mother & U.S. military spouse, and a passionate advocate for Afghans in the United States. Zohra has been a leading voice in the Afghan-American community for over a decade.

My Background

Zohra is native of Afghanistan, mother, U.S. military spouse, and a passionate advocate for marganilzed Afghans, especially women and girls from underrepresented ethnic groups. After a timeltous journey escaping Afghanistan from persecution for her activism in religous freedom and women’s rights, Zohra took refuge in the US in 2010.

Throughout the past decade, having experienced lack of support as a refugee woman herself, Zohra has helped connect both current and former refugee women to resources and support in the United States. In 2021, she co-founded Chai Wa Dastan, a podcast series focused on women refugees from Afghanistan that attracted audiences in 40+ countries.

Zohra has a BA in Political Science from Liberty University, a MA in International Affairs from The George Washington University, and certificates in refugee studies and leadership through the University of Oxford.
