Kate’s story is one of courage, loss, and an unshakable commitment to helping others. In Afghanistan, she was once a leading voice in the Afghan National Choir, using music to express hope, identity, and freedom. Singing was not just an art for Kate— it was a way of being seen and heard in a country where women’s voices were too often silenced. When the Taliban returned to power, that voice became dangerous. What once brought her joy put her life at risk.
Kate was forced to flee without her sister, leaving behind family, familiarity, and the life she knew. Now in the U.S. the sisters are reunited. Starting over in a new country meant learning new systems, a new culture, and a new language, all while carrying the weight of uncertainty.
Today, Kate is in the United States, pursuing an education with the same determination she had in Afghanistan. She is currently in school, working toward a future in nursing. After experiencing fear, displacement, and loss, she wants to be someone who offers care, safety, and compassion to others.

Kate’s journey is a testament to resilience. She is not defined by what she lost, but by what she continues to build. Each class she completes and each clinical skill she learns brings her closer to a future where she can give back, where her work, care, and passion can bring comfort to someone in need.
We are raising $5,000 to support Kate’s clinical training and education. By investing in her future, you are supporting a woman who is determined to spend her life caring for others. One day, Kate could be the nurse caring for you or someone you love — offering not only medical care, but deep empathy born from lived experience. Your support helps turn her determination into a reality.
None of this would have been possible without the generosity of donors like you.
Your support gives our students the chance to step back into a classroom, step into a lab, and step into their futures.
If you want to help more students like me reclaim their education and chase their dreams, please consider donating today.
