At ASPIRE-USA, every dollar we raise goes directly toward supporting the students we serve. We have no paid staff, which means our ability to provide mentorship, guidance, and life-changing opportunities depends entirely on the generosity of volunteers.

As our organization continues to grow, so do the needs of our students. We've identified several volunteer roles that would make an incredible impact on our mission. If one of these opportunities speaks to you—or if you know someone who may be a great fit—we would be grateful for an introduction.

Bookkeeper (QuickBooks) Volunteer

5–10 hours per week

Help ASPIRE-USA build and maintain strong financial systems. This volunteer will help transition our organization from spreadsheets to an accounting platform like QuickBooks and oversee financial entries, account reconciliations, donor tracking, and reporting.

This role is ideal for someone with bookkeeping or accounting experience who wants to support a growing nonprofit and ensure responsible financial stewardship.

Fundraising & Donor Support Volunteer

5–10 hours per month

We are looking for someone passionate about building relationships and helping sustain our mission. This volunteer will assist with donor communications, fundraising campaigns, and community outreach efforts while helping us expand our network of supporters.

Legal Support & Case Management Coordinator

4–6 hours per month

Our students work directly with immigration attorneys on asylum cases and other immigration-related applications. This volunteer role helps students stay organized by managing deadlines, organizing documents, scheduling meetings, and keeping important tasks on track.

We're seeking someone who is highly organized, patient, comfortable with business writing, and familiar with Google Docs and Drive. Training and support from experienced volunteers are provided.

Medical Coordinator Volunteer

2–6 hours per month

Navigating the U.S. healthcare system can be overwhelming, especially for students who are new to the country. This volunteer will help students understand insurance, access medical and dental care, and connect with community resources.

This opportunity is perfect for professionals in healthcare, public health, social work, or patient advocacy who want to make a meaningful difference.

Career & Employment Mentor

2–4 hours per month

Many of our students are preparing to enter the American workforce for the first time. Career mentors help students develop resumes, prepare for interviews, build LinkedIn profiles, and strengthen networking and professional skills.

Your guidance can help students gain confidence and build successful careers.

Housing & Transportation Coordinator

2–5 hours per month

This role helps students secure safe, affordable housing and reliable transportation during winter breaks and summer internships. Volunteers also help connect students with supportive communities through local churches, mosques, civic organizations, and other networks.

Part planner and part community connector, this role plays a vital part in helping students build stability and independence.

A New Name for a Growing Mission

Afghan Scouts Durham is becoming ASPIRE-USA.

As our mission has expanded, so has our reach. What began as support for refugee scouts in Durham has grown into a nationwide effort serving Afghan students across the United States.

ASPIRE-USA (Afghan Students Pursuing Independence, Refuge, and Empowerment) helps Afghan college students build stable, self-sufficient lives through education, mentorship, legal support, and community engagement.

Our volunteers are at the heart of this mission. They help students move from dependency to independence and create opportunities that can change lives for generations.
