This summer has been a balance of building my career, exploring new places, and taking time to appreciate experiences that remind me why every opportunity matters.
I am currently working full-time in a remote accounting position with the University of Minnesota, putting in 40 hours each week. It has been an incredible opportunity to apply what I've learned, strengthen my professional skills, and gain valuable experience in a field I enjoy. Working remotely has also taught me the importance of communication and managing my time effectively.
Every day brings new challenges, and each one helps me become more confident in my abilities.

Taking My Work on the Road
One of the unique parts of this summer has been spending time in Santa Fe, New Mexico, while continuing to work remotely.
After finishing my work each day, I have been able to explore the area's history, culture, and beautiful landscapes.
Being in a new environment has reminded me that learning doesn't only happen in an office or classroom. Sometimes it happens simply by experiencing a new place and seeing the world through a different perspective.
History Comes to Life

One of the highlights of my summer began with a movie night.
I watched Oppenheimer and the very next day, I had the opportunity to visit Los Alamos, where much of the history of the movie actually took place.
Our tour was led by Dr. Bob Fuselier, who even appeared as an extra in the film. Hearing him share behind-the-scenes stories about the movie alongside the real history of Los Alamos made the experience unforgettable. Walking through the places where these events unfolded gave me a much deeper appreciation for the people, decisions, and discoveries that shaped history.
It was one of those rare experiences where a film becomes much more meaningful because you get to see the behind-the-scenes.
Looking Ahead
This summer has reminded me that growth comes in many different forms.
Stepping outside your routine, visiting new places, asking questions, and learning from people who have incredible stories to tell.
As I continue building my career, I know the lessons I've learned this summer will stay with me. From strengthening my accounting skills to exploring history in a completely new way, every experience has helped me grow both professionally and personally.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities I've been given and for everyone who has encouraged me along the way, especially Afghan Scouts Durham. Their support has helped me continue pursuing my education, my career, and experiences that have broadened my understanding of the world.
This summer has been filled with hard work, discovery, and memories I'll carry with me for years to come. I can't wait to see where the journey leads next.
None of this would have been possible without the generosity of donors like you.
Your support gives them the chance to step back into a classroom and onward into their future.
