Energy in the community center buzzes a little brighter when Troop 39 gathers for their weekly Scout meeting. Fifi and Tabby, along with enthusiastic members of Troop 39, recently participated in a special service activity: creating toy-making kits for the children at UNC Children’s Hospital.
The idea was simple yet powerful—give young patients something to do that sparks joy and creativity, even while they’re confined to a hospital room. But behind that simplicity was a lot of thoughtful planning, teamwork, and heart.
Each item was carefully chosen with little hands and big imaginations in mind. Each kit was packed with care, sealed in a clear bag, ready to be delivered with love.
They worked, filling tables with supplies and laughter, but beneath the fun was a sense of purpose.

“We just wanted the kids to have something that feels normal, something fun,” said Fifi, as she sealed a bag with a handmade sticker that read You’ve got this!
Tabby nodded in agreement. “Service is a big part of who we are as Scouts,” she added. “But it’s not just about earning a badge. It’s about thinking about others, we know we can brighten someone’s day.”
For Fifi and Tabby, scouting isn’t just an after-school activity—it’s a commitment they’ve carried with them across continents. Since arriving in the U.S. from Afghanistan, the girls have held tightly to their roles in Troop 39. Scouting gave them a sense of structure and belonging during a time when everything else felt uncertain. While their world shifted dramatically, their dedication to service, learning, and leadership never wavered.

Their commitment runs deep. Whether they’re collecting supplies for a hospital project, organizing a troop fundraiser, or helping new members feel welcome, Fifi and Tabby lead with purpose. Scouting has become part of their identity—a bridge between where they’ve come from and where they’re headed.
